EPL Thoughts

Been a bit of a break (for F1 too, Singapore’s at the weekend) but good old kickball has returned.

All bets, as usual, are with Smarkets unless noted otherwise.

I’ve backed Bournemouth to win at home versus Brentford at 3.55. After some iffy results (mostly due to playing top teams) Bournemouth are looking quite good, drawing away versus Newcastle, and winning away against Nottingham. Brentford recently (well, ish) got thumped at home by Arsenal and thrashed Leeds. Far from impossible they’ll win but the Bournemouth odds look too long to me.

Another home win bet is Fulham at 3.25 to beat Newcastle. Most recent results are an away win versus Nottingham and a 2-1 away defeat to Spurs. Newcastle, meanwhile, have had two draws at home (against Palace and Bournemouth). Fulham are narrowly ahead in the table, and Newcastle haven’t won away all season, I think, whereas Fulham have performed well at home.

And now for the long odds bet that may make me look silly. At 8.8 I’ve backed Manchester United to beat Manchester City. There are a few reasons for this. Man United had a bad start to the season, but since then have won every match they’ve played (including against Liverpool and Arsenal). Recently, City drew away at Villa and beat Wolves away. It absolutely would not be a shock if they won. But home advantage is heavily diluted in local derbies, and Manchester United have recovered well from a terrible start to be within 5 points of City (with a match in hand).

Anyway, those are the things I’ve backed. As ever, do so, or not, at your own risk.

I’ll probably post the continental league tips over the next day or so.
