Imola: post-race analysis 2021

Bit off-colour, so briefer than usual. Both bets failed. Annoyingly, again this season, my pace prediction was correct for the Russell bet, he was in the points almost all race long, then a clumsy collision between himself and Bottas put them both out. Meanwhile, Mazepin managed t only have one or two spins and neither put him out. Off the line Verstappen took the lead and retained it throughout. Hamilton made a rare error, putting his car into the gravel and knocking the front but doing well to recover it and then being favoured by fortune when the aforementioned Bottas-Russell collision brought out a safety car then red flag and enabled him to eventually claim to 2 nd . Norris had a great day to claim 3 rd , with Ricciardo 6 th , and Ferrari were 4 th and 5 th , Leclerc leading the way. Perez made multiple mistakes, including overtaking under the safety car after going into the gravel and assuming he could reclaim lost places (he could not, and received a fair-sized penalty)

Imola: pre-race 2021

No bet, but the qualifying was intriguing and had lots of tight contests and the final result is very intriguing. In the first session Tsunoda, very assured driver but still a newcomer, introduced his car to the wall and ended up last. This brought out a red flag. Williams performed well, both cars escaping, whereas both Haas and Alfa Romeos were eliminated. Weirdly, Alonso ended up slowest of those in Q2, outqualified handily by Ocon, who made the final session. Russell did well to put his Williams in 12 th , with Latifi 14 th . Sainz was the fastest chap eliminated, and the gap to Leclerc indicated the potential was there to progress, and Vettel was just 13 th . Incidentally, Verstappen and the Mercedes set their fast times on the medium tyres (reckoned very useful as the difficulty overtaking and the lengthy pitting time puts a premium on the possibility of a one stop strategy), the rest being on softs. The final session began with Hamilton narrowly edging Verstappen for pole,

The practice and qualifying sessions have had minor timetable amendments due to not wanting to clash with the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and losing British viewership: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.formula-1-and-fia-confirm-changes-to-imola-weekend-timetable-full-details.12vf4JGyyqsuIAXyNaMViC.html First practice began and ended with Mazepin spins. I’m guessing his not to be classified odds will be 1.4, but we shall see. Anyway, fastest chap was Bottas, but both Hamilton and Verstappen were within six-hundredths of a second. Leclerc was a couple of tenths off the ultimate pace, with Gasly another tenth further back, with an identical time as Sainz. Alonso, Stroll, Latifi, and Ricciardo rounded out the top 10. Verstappen had bad luck in second practice with his car breaking early (drive shaft), and he ended up 14 th . Bottas was fastest again, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Hamilton. Gasly was within a tenth, and two-tenths ahead of Sainz this session. Leclerc w
